Vertical tooling with locking and length configuration
The patent addresses securing larger and longer tooling and matching it to the equipment. It combines a tapered locking system with sectional construction. A sleeve surrounds the core, while the forming inserts sit inside it, separating the locking function from the components that define the part contour.
A top cover plate, upper die seat and lower base plate support the vertical assembly. The core and sleeve fit between them. Upper and lower locating guides constrain the insert assembly, and an adjusting-bolt mechanism on the upper seat provides a detachable connection for changes to the tooling.
Different lengths are accommodated by adding core and sleeve sections. This makes length a matter of component configuration while retaining tapered locking and guide location, rather than simply extending a one-piece die.

A tapered sleeve with upper and lower location
The sleeve surrounds the core and engages its taper to provide the locking connection. The forming inserts inside the core can be configured for the required component. Bolts join the upper seat to the sleeve and core, with the lower base plate supporting the assembly. Locking hardware sits outside the forming inserts.
The upper guide is fixed to the top cover plate and passes through the upper seat. The lower guide is mounted on the base plate. Together they locate the insert assembly. Bolts distributed around the top cover and at the sides of the lower base connect the supporting parts.
The adjusting-bolt mechanism allows the upper seat and cover plate to separate, providing access to fit additional core and sleeve sections. The design accommodates a change in length through assembled components while retaining the tapered interfaces and upper and lower guides.
Design features
Forming inserts inside a separate locking assembly
The inserts sit within the core, and the sleeve locks around its outside. Internal components define the part contour; the outer sleeve and supporting plates provide locking and mounting. These functions have distinct components within the same device.
Additional core and sleeve sections
The detachable upper seat and cover provide a way to install more core and sleeve sections. Length is configured through these components, accompanied by upper and lower guide location, to create a sectional vertical tool.
