Sealing-head advance with a separate backstop

The patent addresses end sealing for hydroforming. Its development context includes bent water and exhaust tubes and the constraints imposed by the direction of a machine's side cylinders. ShuiYiYuan separates movement of the sealing head from the support that holds it in position.

One cylinder advances the head along a guide track. A second cylinder moves a stop block along a perpendicular track. The block provides a mechanical restraint behind the positioned head, resisting backward movement. Head advance and insertion of the backstop therefore have separate actuating components.

The head, stop block and tracks are mounted in a common cylinder-seat body. This grouping is central to the patent: movement, rear support and the sealing connection are incorporated into a single fixture for tooling used with bent tube components.

Perpendicular guides and stepped sealing connections

Two communicating guide tracks run at right angles inside the cylinder-seat body. The sealing head travels in one and the stop block in the other, each driven by its own cylinder. The block supports the back of the head, while the advancing cylinder controls its position along the track.

A stepped recess at the rear of the head receives a projection on the cover, with seal grooves at the mating surfaces. The front of the head has another seal groove and a flared opening. Countersunk screws attach the cover. The fitted surfaces and seals establish the sealed space and locate the cover against the head.

A further version in the patent includes a tubular guide inside the sealing head to assist sealing. This is an optional component used with the same two-cylinder advancing and backstop mechanism.

Design features

An independently driven backstop

The second cylinder moves the stop block perpendicular to the head's travel. Advancing the head and resisting its backward movement are assigned to different parts, retaining a sliding head while adding mechanical support at its working position.

Seals at both front and rear connections

The head and cover use a stepped fit with seals at their mating surfaces. A separate seal groove is provided at the tube-facing end. Each connection has its own sealing features, with the tubular guide available as an additional sealing component.
