Local expansion tooling for tubular furniture legs

The patent applies hydroforming to the shape of table and chair leg tubes. A round tube sits inside the core bore, with liquid supplied from below. Internal pressure expands the wall against the bore contour. Local space in the core accommodates outward expansion for raised features in the leg.

ShuiYiYuan's design is a vertical, coaxial assembly. The upper mounting plate, two upper die-body sections and lower die share a vertical centreline. The upper guide, lower guide and core also align on a common axis, bringing the forming region, end location and liquid inlet together.

An upper sealing cup, a passage in the lower guide, fastening screws and a locating slot between the body sections provide sealing, supply and assembly connections. The patent gives the furniture-tube contour a dedicated tool with matching location, sealing and support hardware.

A forming bore with coaxial sealing hardware

The core has a truncated-cone exterior and an internal forming bore, mounted in the lower part of the second upper body section. The bore defines the tube's forming space, including regions for local expansion. The core's outer surface fits the tooling, while its inner contour shapes the part.

The upper guide slides within the upper body sections, with a sealing cup above. The lower guide sits at the centre of the lower die and contains the water passage. Both guides align with the core, locating the fluid path and end-sealing hardware around the tube for internal pressurization.

Screws join the two upper body sections, upper mounting plate and lower die. A locating slot at the junction of the upper sections positions that connection. The bolted and slotted assembly supports the coaxial core and guides within the die frame.

Design features

Core contours for locally raised features

The core bore constrains the round tube and provides space for local outward expansion. Part contours are contained in the forming core, while the surrounding die bodies and lower die provide its mounting and support.

Coaxial fluid supply and sealing in a sectional body

The upper guide, lower guide and core share a centreline. The upper cup provides sealing hardware and the lower passage supplies water. Two upper body sections are joined by screws and a locating slot, retaining separate assembly parts with defined mating positions.
